Yuxi, a key member of the Yunnan Central New Area, plays a significant role in the Belt and Road Initiative, the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor. The project involves the construction of utility tunnels along six roads, with a total length of 14.91 km. The utility tunnels are primarily designed with three compartments, accommodating municipal pipelines such as water supply, power, communications, gas, and sewage.
The main challenge lies in the rational application of prefabricated technology and the deep integration of innovative technologies like VR, AR, and BIM in the construction of smart utility tunnels. The project is characterized by multiple pipelines, complex intersections, and alignment with sponge city initiatives. Guided by the overall planning and construction requirements of Yuxi, the design adopts a "smart, intensive, ecological, low-carbon" philosophy.
The project team integrated cutting-edge technologies including VR, AR, BIM, and big data, achieving full life-cycle BIM application from design and construction to operation and maintenance. During construction, semi-prefabricated and composite assembly techniques were employed. Based on road distribution, structural cross-sections, prefabrication plant setup, and component processing cycles, different assembly methods were applied across sections, achieving a prefabrication rate of approximately 31% for the project mileage. For operation and maintenance, the team utilized a self-developed smart utility tunnel management platform based on BIM and GIS, integrating BIM, VR, distributed computing, and sensing technologies to enable intelligent management of the utility tunnels.
