The Kaiping-Yangjiang Expressway is a section of the G15 Shenyang-Haikou National Expressway (the "Second Vertical" in China's National Expressway Network Plan), and constitutes a vital component of the fifth horizontal corridor in Guangdong Province's expressway backbone system.

     The eight-lane expansion under EPC model faced dual challenges of maintaining traffic flow and construction progress. Targeting safety, durability, sustainability, and innovation, it advanced management and technological innovations under "construct while operating" conditions, establishing joint coordination mechanisms, full-section management, and techniques like radar detection and SPMT. This formed the "New Kaiyang Model" emphasizing new concepts, mechanisms, and technologies.
