The bridge is situated between Jiangyin City and Jingjiang City in Jiangsu Province, opened to traffic in October 1999, and constructed to dual six-lane expressway standards.
As China’s first steel box girder suspension bridge with a main span exceeding 1,000 meters (1999), it features a main span of 1,385 meters and a total length of 3,071 meters, accommodating dual six-lane traffic. The pylons stand 197 meters high, with streamlined flat steel box girders measuring 36.9 meters in width and 3 meters in depth. By main span length, it ranked as the world’s fourth longest suspension bridge during the 20th century.
