The Runyang Bridge, connecting Yangzhou City in Jiangsu Province to the north with Zhenjiang City to the south, opened to traffic on October 1, 2005. Designed as a dual six-lane expressway, the project is primarily composed of the South Channel Suspension Bridge and the North Channel Cable-Stayed Bridge. It stands as the largest, highest-standard, and most technically complex suspension, cable-stayed, and continuous girder composite extra-large bridge in China's highway bridge construction history.
The technical highlights feature the South Channel Bridge, a steel box girder suspension bridge with a span arrangement of 470m + 1,490m + 470m and a pylon height of 209.9m. The North Channel Bridge is a twin-pylon, double-cable-plane steel box girder cable-stayed bridge, with a span arrangement of 175.4m + 406m + 175.4m and pylons reaching 146.9m in height.
This project holds the significance of being the largest in scale, the highest in standard, and the most technically complex combination-type bridge, incorporating suspension, cable-stayed, and continuous girder designs, in China's highway history.
