It further integrates with the existing Nanjing Station via the Shangyuanmen River-Crossing Tunnel.
As a strategic component of national initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and Yangtze River Delta Integration, this railway enhances intercity connectivity and fosters a regional "1-2 hour transportation circle."
Key functionalities include reducing travel time between Nanjing and Huai'an to one hour, deploying long-span bridges, optimizing transport capacity and service quality, promoting balanced economic growth along Jiangsu-Anhui corridors, and advancing Jiangsu Province’s modern integrated transport infrastructure.
