Pinglu Canal is the first strategic river-sea transit corridor developed since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Starting from Pingtang Estuary in the Xijin Reservoir area of Hengzhou, Nanning, it passes through Luwu Town in Lingshan County, Qinzhou, and follows the Qin River to enter the Beibu Gulf. Once completed, it will shorten the seaward voyage for the mid-to-upstream regions of the Xijiang River by approximately 560 km.
The project faces challenges such as advancing the river-sea transit corridor, managing high total investment, developing ecological conservation zones, and achieving comprehensive utilization of earthwork. Given the complex ecological conditions along the canal, our design team aims to establish a pilot demonstration zone for a "green project." We plan to set up 15 ecological conservation zones at the oxbow lakes where the channel is straightened, ensuring the sustainable ecological development of this golden waterway.
With a large volume of earthwork excavation, comprehensive utilization presents a major difficulty. Our team has considered regional transport conditions, soil quality, topography, and socio-economic factors to maximize earthwork benefits through approaches such as construction material processing, land reclamation in original channels and abandoned mining pits, as well as land consolidation and valley field elevation.
