Work Period: October 2019 – December 2023
Service to Scope: Engineering Design, Construction Service
The Yangzhou Gate and Pump Station Project is located northeast of Yangzhou's Ancient Canal and Yiyang River Basin, 1.3km west of the Ancient Canal's confluence with the Huai River Waterway (Beijing-Hangzhou Canal). It serves primarily for flood control with additional functions including water diversion, drainage, and navigation. Construction involved demolishing the northern regulation gate, building a new pump station (72m³/s drainage capacity, 29m³/s diversion capacity) with a control building, new upstream/downstream trash rack bridges, expansion of Taiping North Road Bridge, and management facilities.
Challenges included applying new pump technologies, complex land use issues, spatial constraints, public impact concerns, budget limitations, and long service cycles. The project team published 18 papers and filed 12 patents.
Design improvements optimized functionality and scale through industry-academia-research collaboration, featuring adjustable guide vanes, bi-directional dual-speed mechanisms, noise control devices, and BIM technology. As China's largest bi-directional submersible tubular pump station by impeller diameter, it sets a benchmark for similar projects. The architectural design integrates Yangzhou's canal culture, creating a new landmark for urban water infrastructure.
