Fully Enclosed and Photovoltaic Noise Barriers on Jiangling Road, Wujiang District
Back

Client: Transportation Bureau of Wuzhong District, Suzhou City

Location: Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province

Work Scope: 1076m photovoltaic sound barrier; 2360m fully enclosed sound barrier

Work Period: 10 months

Service to Scope: Sound insulation engineering design

Fully enclosed noise barriers address noise complaints and reduce traffic noise impact on environmental targets. Photovoltaic noise barriers combine solar power with transportation, reflecting the transportation-energy integration concept.

During project implementation, designing and constructing fully enclosed barriers face challenges like ensuring strong noise reduction while maintaining structural stability and safety. Photovoltaic barriers introduce additional issues, such as adapting solar components to the barrier structure and improving power generation efficiency and economic benefits.

Traditional elevated barrier absorbent panels were replaced with new double-sided solar components featuring sound absorption and insulation, integrated with remaining panels to form photovoltaic barriers, along with supporting electrical systems. These barriers serve dual purposes: providing acoustic functions and acting as power generation units. Electricity generated is used for lighting or fed into the grid, powering nearby traffic signals and lights. In the Jiangling Road upgrade project, the fully enclosed barriers are about 7m high with a standard span of 26m, installed via hoisting, and filled with porous foam ceramic in metal plates for effective noise reduction. Additionally, transparent barriers use reinforced acrylic panels with high transparency, wear resistance, weather resistance, and glare prevention, offering noise insulation and bird collision prevention.
